Spotify Launches Video Podcasts for All Creators

GANDHINAGAR: In a significant move, Spotify in early June opened its doors to non-hosted podcasters allowing them to upload videos directly to the platform. This means any creator can directly upload videos to Spotify using their preferred podcast hosting service. Previously, creators had to sign up with ‘Spotify for Podcasters’ or a partner hosting company to upload video podcasts.

The feature, quietly rolled in the first week of June, eliminates the need for creators to be hosted on Spotify for Podcasters or rely on partner hosting companies. Previously, video feeds were separate from audio, resulting in two episodes.

To utilize this new capability, creators can visit the Spotify for Podcasters portal, locate the audio-only version of their podcast episode, and simply click the three dots to add a video version. 👉But first Login into your Spotify for Podcasters account here

Video Podcasts Surge Ahead

Spotify’s focus on video podcasts is paying off. The platform now boasts over 2,50,000 video podcasts, which is steady increase from 1,00,000 recorded in 2023. Notably, more than 170 million global users engage with video podcasts on Spotify, and monthly active users watching video content have surged by 40% year-over-year. In a surprising twist, video consumption hours have outpaced audio-only hours during the same period.

Spotify continues to enhance the video podcast experience, introducing features like the “Miniplayer,” which allows Premium subscribers to watch videos in a smaller desktop window while multitasking. As the platform evolves, video remains a central part of the Spotify journey.

Spotify’s Miniplayer Elevates Desktop Experience For Video Podcasts

Spotify miniplayer

Spotify recently unveiled an addition to its desktop experience: the Spotify Miniplayer! Whether you’re a music lover or a podcast addict, this feature helps enhance your listening experience and seamlessly integrates into your workflow

What Is the Spotify Miniplayer?

The Miniplayer is a sleek, unobtrusive control hub that floats over other applications on your desktop. It’s designed to give you maximum control over your music and podcasts without disrupting your work or leisure activities. Let’s dive into what makes it special:

1. Supported Content

  • Music and Podcasts: The Miniplayer caters equally to both music and podcast content. Whether you’re jamming to your favorite tunes or catching up on the latest episodes, this nifty tool has you covered.
  • Video Podcasts in Picture-in-Picture: For video podcasts, the Miniplayer offers a picture-in-picture mode with intuitive controls. Adjust the video size to your liking and enjoy a seamless viewing experience.

2. Discreet and Focused

  • Floats Over Other Apps: Say goodbye to distractions! The Miniplayer hovers above your other open applications, allowing you to access playback controls without losing focus.
  • Minimal Intrusion: Keep your workflow undisturbed while managing your music. No need to switch windows—everything you need is right there.

3. Fluid Transition

  • Complements the Main Spotify Window: The Miniplayer doesn’t replace the main Spotify app. Switch effortlessly between the two without interrupting your listening pleasure.
  • Quick Actions: Shuffle your queue, repeat a song, or manage your library—all with a single click.

4. Adaptable Design

  • Shape It Your Way: Customize the Miniplayer’s shape—square, rectangle, or sleek bar—to fit your current task. It’s your space, your rules.
  • Minimal Visual Presence: Opt for a small pill-sized Miniplayer for essential controls while conserving screen real estate.

How to Access the Miniplayer

  • Premium Users Only: Currently, the Miniplayer is exclusively available to Spotify Premium users.
  • Look for the Icon: Find the Miniplayer icon in your desktop app, nestled between the volume and full-screen buttons at the bottom right corner.
