After deciding what kind of content you want to put out on your podcast, it's time to consider about the episodes themselves. Dive in...
How long does it take to get the idea across? Most podcast listeners would define a "short" episode as anything less than 15 minutes. And a "long" episode would most likely be anything more than an hour.
Many individuals may point to the average commute time (which is reported to be approximately 20 minutes) as a decent duration to aim for. However, episode lengths ranging from 20 to 45 minutes appear to be in the "sweet spot."
If you are confused , then dont worry much about these figures. Remember your episode lengths should be decided by two things. 1. Your content 2. Your audience
Why reduce 50 minutes of great, relevant information to 20 minutes? Similarly, if your podcast has said what you need to in 10 minutes, why extend it to 30? If an interview but lasts 2 hours. You could always cut it in half to make two episodes.
Your listeners will inform you if your episodes are too short or too long over time. To acquire statistics like this, try to poll your audience once a year, and then modify accordingly.
There's no need to stick to the same podcast length once you obtain the listener survey data,. But it's nice to have a 'average' so your listeners know what to anticipate.
A short and snappy 4-minute episode may appeal to one sort of listeners, while a lengthy 3-hour in-depth conversations may appeal to another. Consider whether your length is an intentional one-of-a-kind choice.
