🎉Why Podcasting matters✨

The year 2021 and 2022 has been undoubtedly a big year for podcasts💖. Major acquisitions by Spotify, JioSaavan…has already created ripples in the podcasting industry in India and abroad. But there is more. PodMirror ✨believes, podcasts can help us strive to create a more supportive landscape for equitable, community-minded programs — one that has value and is valued. Apart from commercialized, hyper-celebrity noise, podcasts also give space for diverse voices, perspectives, and stories that can call podcasting home.

Podcast🎤 collaboration Will breed excellence

Pod Mirror believes that podcast collaboration — not competition–will breed excellence. We hope that podcast makers shift their focus from being ‘the first’, ‘the best’, and ‘the one-and-only’, to becoming collaborators and audio allies.

The podcast landscape is consolidating rapidly, with a handful of major networks controlling a growing share of listeners.

While many may argue that competition will drive excellence, but it will also breed stress, anxiety, and burnout, making it difficult for new voices and perspectives to thrive. We hope podcast makers focus on collaboration and cooperation, rather than competition, to overcome these industry’s challenges.

Acknowledge these truths

*😁Collaborating with other podcasters, even perceived competitors, can help you create a supportive community that shares ideas.

*😁Accept that there are other podcasts like yours, whether in topic, tone, or target audience.

*😁Understand that there is always room for growth

*😁There is no universal definition of podcast success.

Podcasting Should go local🎶

A few digital news startups in India are evaluating and tackling the needs of communities, filling gaps once held by local papers, and emerging into public-private partnerships. Podcasting is a medium that organizations of all stripes can choose to explore.

Today public radio stations have branched out into podcasting successfully, and it is poised to grow as an essential source of news, storytelling, and opportunity within local communities. Pod Mirror, aspires to play a role in helping communities adopt podcasting ecosystem.

Like Public Radio Exchange (PRX) manages ‘Podcast Garages’ in US, where people meet, learn, network, and record podcasts, one can have similar organizations here in India too. In the U.S., PRX’s training teams work with journalists and storytellers to build sustainable podcast ecosystems.

Audio consumption is on the rise in India, and podcasting opens up opportunities for organizations to think beyond the limitations of traditional radio. In the years ahead, those who choose to explore podcasting will further empower their audiences and themselves.
